New electronic ignition is specified for 6volt system. After installing tractor would crank over but not start. (using internal 6v battery like always). The first is cost; compare the costs of annually changing the points/plugs/ condenser/ rotor ($20) vs the cost of a 12v conversion ($145, plus $40 for a 12v battery, or $185) and add to that the cost of the EI ($150) and you get a 12 year pay-back.
